  Childhood fondness

Talk about coincidences.

Was talking to my colleagues about how I used to enjoy Buttonmoon when i was much younger. A pity my colleagues were from different generations. haha..

Came across the Buttonmoon theme while surfing HP themes to download into my SE walkman.

Was reading one of ash's fren's blog when she also mentioned Buttonmoon.

Bingo!

Guess that's enough coincidences for me to start an entry on this cute but silly show.

Something that got me thinking about this long-extinct show was the unforgettable theme song. The same words "Buttonmoon, Buttonmoon, Buttonmoon, Buttonmooooon" in that same tune just kept getting stuck in my head. Yessss, its a silly song, in fact, you could hardly call it a song. But whenever I start hearing this jingle playing over and over again, the same scene of the home-made rocket flying to the yellow button moon would keep flashing through my mind too.

Talk about selective memory. Perhaps this is a piece of my happy childhood that i'd like very much to keep and remember. The characters and props in that show were so simple, yet unimaginable. Things were simply so simple then. Or perhaps I have not yet developed the complexities yet.

Button Moon
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Button Moon was a popular
children's television programme broadcast in the United Kingdom in the 1980s on the ITV Network. Thames Television produced each episode which lasted ten minutes and featured the adventures of Mr. Spoon who in each episode would travel to Button Moon with his daughter Tina in his homemade rocket-ship. Once on Button Moon (which hung in "blanket sky") they would have an adventure, and look through Mr. Spoon's telescope at someone else such as the Hare and the Tortoise, before heading back to their home planet 'Junk Planet'. The series ended in 1988 after 91 episodes.
The song's full lyrics were "We're off to button moon, to follow Mr. Spoon, Button Mooooon, Button Moooooooooooooooon"

Other shows that I grew up with:

  • Sesame street -I love cookie monster :)
  • Art Attack! - interesting show that got me really interested in creating art and craft.
  • Electric-city - similar concept to sesame street, less puppets
  • Fun house - some lame game show, but fun to watch.
  • cartoons - smurfs, gummybears, carebears, doraemon (in malay okaie, w el subtitles), scoobydoo (How can I forget yoooou, scoobydoo??!)

It's nice being young. When everything around you seems so rosy. It's good to be naive at times.
